The festivities kicked off with the unveiling of Shepherd’s first-ever Great Pumpkin Tooth Fairy—a towering figure not made of pumpkin, but dental floss spools, toothbrush bristles, and mouthwash bottles, all topped with a glowing fluoride paste tube. Legend has it that the Great Pumpkin Tooth Fairy flies around town, leaving sugar-free gum in the shoes of those who brush and floss before bed. Some say it’s just a tall tale, but why take the chance?
Costume Contest: Dental Edition
What’s Halloween without a costume contest? This year’s theme: “Dental Dynamos and Cavity Crusaders.” The competition was fierce, with entries ranging from Molar Man (complete with cape and toothbrush scepter) to the fearsome Plaque Phantom. The winner, however, was Little Lisa as “The Unstoppable Flosser,” complete with a floss tiara and plaque-busting lasso. Her prize? A year’s supply of dental floss, because you can never have too much of a good thing.
Trick-or-Treat, Brush Your Teeth
In a bid to balance the candy craze, Smile Squad introduced the “Trick-or-Treat, Brush Your Teeth” booth. For every handful of candy a child received, they also got a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste. It was a hit, especially when kids realized the toothbrushes glowed in the dark—a handy feature for late-night candy raids and, of course, for finding your way back to the bathroom sink to brush away the sugary spoils of the night.
The Haunted Dental Office
The pièce de résistance was the Haunted Dental Office tour. Guided by none other than Dr. Fang (Dr. Fong in a cape), visitors braved the “Cavity Crypt” (a.k.a. the X-ray room) and the “Gum Disease Graveyard” (complete with educational brochures). The tour ended with a visit to the “Fluoride Fountain,” where each brave soul received a fluoride treatment to ward off any real scares to their dental health.
